Hessian is a rough, coarse, loosely woven natural fabric normally made from fibres of the jute plant. Traditionally used to make bags for transporting goods as hessian fabric is very strong. Now it is often used in the landscaping and agricultural industries to make bags for transporting plants and for frost protection. Due to its rustic, raw, natural appeal it is also used in the arts, film, upholstery and crafts industries for decorative purposes.
